What Makes Us “The One”

At Derek Lietzau Insurance Group, we do things differently. While our competitors might try to win you over with the cheapest quote, we quote based on your actual needs, prioritizing coverage that protects your assets over just offering a bare-bones policy.

We take the time to uncover all of your day-to-day risks so that when life throws something unexpected your way, you can rest assured knowing you are covered.

Plus, you will always have a dedicated agent you can call directly when you have questions.

Our Origin Story

Insurance is in our blood. This business was passed down from Derek’s Dad, who served the community in the insurance industry for over 30 years. Derek has now been an Agent for 14 years, driven by a desire to use his communication strengths to help clients truly understand the purpose of insurance: protecting everything they work hard for. This “advisory approach” rather than a “selling approach” is a cornerstone of his career, earning him the prestigious Farm Bureau “Greg Smith Leader in Action” award last year for his work mentoring young agents.

We treat our clients with the utmost respect, the same way we would treat our peers. You can expect deep sympathy during tough situations, but also professional boundaries to ensure we are always protecting your best interests.

Derek Lietzau
Owner

“In 14 years of experience in the insurance industry, I take pride in guiding my clients through their coverage in a way that they can both understand and feel confident in. Being there for my clients during difficult times is the most meaningful part of what I do, and I am especially passionate about life insurance – knowing I’ve helped provide security and support to a family when they needed it most brings a deep sense of purpose to my work.”

Being a Good Neighbor

We are deeply invested in making an impact outside of our office walls. We are proud members of the Southwest Michigan Business Network and the Paw Paw Lions Club. We actively support our local youth and agricultural communities through 4-H, the Van Buren Conservation District’s “Farming for the Future” event, and the Kalamazoo Youth for Christ annual golf outing. Over the years, we have also loved supporting local schools, including Paw Paw Athletics and Mattawan Little League.

We believe in being upfront about who we work best with. We are not for people who are just looking for the cheapest price and don’t care about how well they are actually covered. We are also not the right fit for people who want a “quick policy” where they can stop into our office and expect to bind coverages that same day, while we can sometimes do this, it is very rare because we take the time to do things right.
